Hyacinthe Mizero's dream to see young women rise as confident leaders and empower the next generation.

International Women's Day

My name is Hyacinthe Mizero Ahingeneye, a proud Rwandan woman born and raised in Kigali City, Nyarugenge District, Kanyinya Sector. I was fortunate to grow up in a loving and supportive family, with my biggest inspiration being my mother. This woman overcame countless obstacles to pursue her education and become a high school mathematics teacher. Her strength taught me the power of resilience, education, and determination.

Leading Girls and Changing Lives

After finishing high school, I began mentoring adolescent girls and teen mothers in my community. I listened to their stories—stories of struggles, teenage pregnancies, broken dreams, and limited opportunities. This opened my eyes to the deep inequalities young women face every day. I realized how privileged I was and knew I had to do more than count my blessings. I had to be part of the solution.

Later, I joined Davis College/Akilah. While concluding my studies, I had the incredible opportunity to join the Intwari Women program - a program launched by Amy Pritchard and Global GAIN, a US NGO dedicated to democracy and women’s political leadership. Amy was also a board member of Davis College/Akilhah. ‘

This program provided me with valuable training in communication, digital literacy, and personal and professional leadership. Most importantly, it helped me discover the true meaning of leadership: that leadership isn’t about titles or positions but about inspiring others to dream more, do more, and become more.

This experience sparked something bigger: the desire to give back on a larger scale. Later on, our team of passionate graduates combined our ideas, and Women GAIN Rwanda was born. Through Women GAIN Rwanda, my team and I work to equip young women with civic leadership, social impact, fundraising, entrepreneurship, and digital skills to help them take control of their futures. We also teach storytelling and public narrative using the stories of women leaders. By giving them the tools to succeed, we empower them to make better choices, start businesses, find jobs, and become the leaders their communities need.

On this International Women’s Day, I reflect not only on my mother’s journey and my own but on the countless young women I’ve met who are rewriting their stories daily. This day reminds me that when one woman rises, she brings others with her. It’s a call to action for all of us to uplift, mentor, and empower the next generation of women leaders. Together, we are not just imagining a future where women lead; we are building it, one empowered woman at a time.

To make this vision a reality, Women GAIN Rwanda is raising $20,000 to support our programs, including the upcoming third leadership cohort of Intwari Women. I am committed to raising $5,000 to directly support the Intwari Women Leadership Program. Your donation, whether $5, $10, $50, $100, or more, will directly support training and mentorship for young women across Rwanda.

Together, we can break cycles of poverty, open doors to opportunity, and create a generation of confident, skilled women ready to lead. When women lead, we all win. Please join us and contribute today because every young woman deserves a chance to thrive.
